Why am I getting an “Oops, your file could not be uploaded” error message in D2L?

If you are getting the “Oops, your file could not be uploaded” error message in D2L, there could be a few reasons why.

  1. Your file or folder name contains special characters. The following characters cannot be used in the names of files that will be uploaded to D2L:
    ” * / : < > ? \ | –
  2. Your file or folder name contains too many characters. The limit to characters in file names is 260 characters, but best practice is to limit file names to two or three words.
  3. Your file name does not contain a valid extension. Avoid avoid using two consecutive periods ( .. ) in a file name.
  4. You’ve attempted to attach the file before the file has been uploaded completely. Make sure the green bar has completely loaded to 100% before you finish.
