Can students download Panopto videos?

By default, Panopto videos are not downloadable – but you can make them downloadable.

Whole Folder

You can change the settings for a whole folder in order to make all the videos within the folder downloadable.

  1. Open Panopto within D2L.
  2. Navigate to the folder you would like to change.
  3. Choose the gear icon in the upper right corner of the Panopto folder display.
  4. Navigate to Settings within the menu.
  5. Use the dropdown menu within the Downloads section of the page to change download permissions.

Individual Video

  1. Open Panopto within D2L.
  2. Navigate to the video you would like to change.
  3. Choose the gear Settings icon below the video’s tile.
  4. From the Overview section of the menu, change the download permissions from the Downloads dropdown menu.

Please do not change the download permissions on any copyrighted materials – or without the instructor/creator’s permission if you are a D2L admin. More information on using Panopto can be found in our Panopto guide.
