If a D2L course is inactive, and a student is subscribed to News notifications, they will not receive a notification when a News item is posted. More information about notifications is found in the D2L Notifications guide, and a guide to setting your D2L course to active is found here.

April 10.8.0 – Verification of Email Address for Notifications
To enhance the security of notifications, all new users who select custom email address must verify that email address (by clicking a link in a verification email) before they receive notifications from via email in D2L.
April 10.8.0 – Visual indicators of role switch states on the Navigation Bar
Users who switch roles will now see a better visual indicator of the role they are now in on the navigation bar. Having a visual reminder ensures that users are more aware of the role they are currently viewing the course in.
April 10.8.0 – Course image library now includes images with increased diversity and educational context
Hundreds of new images will be available in the course image library. Instructors will be able to select from images that are more diverse in terms of age, gender, ethnicity, and culture. Images are also available that relate to educational subjects, such as communication or engineering.
