What does “Course Ended” mean in relation to D2L courses?

D2L administrators assign End Dates to D2L courses based on the University calendar, and once the End Date has passed, the course image is overlaid with “Course Ended” text:

The End Date tells D2L when the course is no longer current, and needs to be automatically unpinned from the “My Courses” widget for students. The End Date helps ensure that students’ new courses are automatically pinning for them at the start of each quarter; if too many courses are already pinned in the “My Courses” widget, then there isn’t room for the current quarter’s courses to automatically pin.

While End Dates are used as a way to control what is automatically unpinned in the “My Courses” widget, the End Dates operate separate from courses being made active or inactive. So, instructors still control when a course becomes inactive and unavailable to students, and students retain access to courses that are labeled “Course Ended” for as long as the course remains active.

Instructors and students can manually control which courses are pinned in their “My Courses” widget, and instructions for pinning D2L courses are found here. Instructions for setting a D2L course to active are found in this guide.
